LoveLove Films MD Georgina Hurcombe attends CGFX Festival 2018 as panel member
LoveLove MD Georgina was delighted to be invited to talk on the panel at this years CGFX organised by our friend and Solent University senior lecturer in CGI the fabulous Ken Pitts, in Solent Universities beautiful £33 million teaching and learning building ‘Spark”
The Solent University Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) and Visual Effects (VFX) courses are proud to be hosting this important careers event. The event included speakers from the CGI and VFX industries including the likes of Blue Zoo, Double Negative VFX, Framestore and Outpost, as well as graduate stories to give students a flavour of exactly what working in these exciting industries is like.
LoveLove Films MD Georgina Hurcombe took part in the panel that was hosted by Amy Smith from VFX industry powerhouse Framestore, whose works spans across a vast array of feature films. Included on the panel was a fantastic array of creative minds including Blue Zoo Co-Founder Tom Box and Director Ben Steer, Double Negative’s Chris Gill, Steve Holms from Outpost and Stuart Holmes.
In addition to the talks, the students and the guests also got to view Blue Zoo’s BAFTA nominated ‘Mamoon’, a super emotive and beautifully haunting animation inspired by the horrific plight of refugees fleeing Syria’s civil war. Mamoon (an Arabic name meaning ‘without fear’) follows the story of a mother and child, whose lives descend into darkness when the moon mysteriously loses it’s light. As their own light begins to fade, the mother must work out how to save her child, using a mysterious red glow). Blue Zoo – we have our fingers crossed for your BAFTA next week!
Another highlight was seeing Double Negative’s Super talented Creature TD Chris Gill treating the students to a snippet of the movie ‘Life’ where bad things happen to a CGI mouse! Lets just say we wouldn’t want to be that mouse! Chris took the students through his workflow and gave great insight into working in VFX industry.
Georgina was also met with many of the students and staff members and had a tour of the fantastic facilities at Solent University and found out more about why it is such a great place to study Animation and VFX.
The LoveLove Films team would like to thank Solent University and in particular the fantastic Ken Pitts for the chance to engage with their animation and VFX students at The CGFX festival 2018! We look forwards to future events with the university.
LoveLove Films will be coming back to Solent University to run a workshop in animation concept to completion later in the year with our animation department including Dale, a former graduate of Solent University.
