LoveLove Films are delighted to announce that the British Council have reached out to us to include Chin Up in the British directory.

Each year, the British Council choose a selection of films from the UK to add to the British Council Films Directory. Chin Up can be seen here.

The UK Films Directory is an extensive searchable database of new British films, containing a continuously expanding record of the best UK features, shorts, documentaries, and animations. It’s archive of British films extends back to 1998.

LoveLove Films won MOFILM’s global competition, Many Voices ‘ Year of the woman’ with Chin Up. Chin Up is about one of our animators, JoAnne Salmon, who tells her story of being born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, a rare genetic condition characterised by deformities of the ears, eyes, cheekbones and chin, which causes breathing problems and hearing difficulties. She explains the challenges she has faced throughout her life, and how she has not let them stop her following her dream of becoming an animator.

Throughout her childhood, JoAnne loved to draw herself as heroic characters to escape the insecurity and feeling of being different that came with her condition. However, JoAnne never drew her facial features any differently to fit the scene of a heroic warrior or mystical mermaid, she always stayed true to her appearance in her drawings. The documentary touches on poignant milestones that have impacted JoAnne and made her the strong and inspirational woman that she is today. Chin Up highlights on the female empowerment that is giving 2018 the great ‘Year of Woman’ status. JoAnne’s story also fits into the much larger narrative of how attitudes towards women are changing in todays society.

Chin Up was narrated, illustrated and animated by JoAnne, giving a true insight into growing up with a visible disability. JoAnne and the LoveLove Films animation team created the documentary with intricate 2D mixed media using childhood photos mixed in with beautiful and colourful illustrations and animation.

Chin Up was described by Campaign Magazine as an “Uplifting story for rebel creatives.”

Director JoAnne Salmon states:

“Chin Up is not a documentary about sadness. It’s an animated documentary about facing challenges head on that is full of heart and adventure. This documentary is about keeping your ‘chin up’ and following your dreams in the face of adversity. It has taken 33 years to write it, Chin Up, which is a story about my own life and aims to highlight that anyone can be whatever they want to be, no matter what gender, age, race or ability.”

Salmon says the film at it’s essence is a story of hope and self-acceptance. She explains: “It’s about following your dreams and persevering in the face of adversity and embracing all quirks that make you yourself.”

Georgina Hurcombe, Producer and Founder of LoveLove Films said; “We are honoured to have Chin Up listed in the British Council’s Film Directory and hope that global audiences enjoy JoAnne’s uplifting story. We hope that it acts as a source of inspiration to many.”

Chin Up is about to start it’s festival run in 2019 and we are very excited about sharing this film with a global audience. We hope that this short documentary will touch the hearts of many.

LoveLove Films are extremely excited to announce that we have updates on our in-house project ‘The Hummingbird’.

On the last chilly weekend of January 2015 the LoveLove team shot the background plates and live action scenes. We were delighted that our good friend Ross McDonald joined us as our DOP.

The weekend shoot consisted of obtaining 53 plates, collecting onset data for the CG integration process and lots of cake and chocolate eating.

Our next steps are to edit the Raw footage, Match moving, animation and Grade. We are also delighted to announce that we have our great friend, Tony award nominated composer & arranger Alex Baranowski attached to the project to compose the original score.

LoveLove Films are extremely excited to announce that we are working on a new in-house project. Currently, our animators Sunny and  David who has previously worked on on feature films such as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014) and ‘Jupiter Ascending’ (2015)  are currently letting their creative juices flow whilst animating origami paper cranes.

This short films  working title is  ‘Hummingbird’.

This in-house animated short film explores love in the most beautiful way, telling the story of two origami hummingbirds dreaming of escaping the confinement of the office they were made in. We are hoping this will be a moving and visually stunning experience.

LoveLove is working passionately on the project and we will keep you up to date with it.

Blood, guts, gore and a bowl of popcorn being chucked across the room in sheer terror are usually the first things that come to mind when we think of watching a horror, but that only adds to the excitement.

Wildseed Studios teamed up with the Horror Channel, Movie Mogul and FrightFest to hold their ‘Short Cuts to Hell II’ competition, which consisted of creating a bone-chilling three-minute short, with as little budget as possible, for the chance to transform it into a feature film with the aid of a £20,000 budget.

Our talented scriptwriters and imaginative  team worked together to create a thrilling horror animatic of ‘The Last Dead End’. With all the exciting projects going on here at LoveLove, The Last Dead End was an extra side project created in conjunction with Blue Donut Studios, and completed with a  extremely quick turnaround.

The eerie black, white and red look of the short is enough to give us nightmares, let alone the blood-curdling screams! We are thrilled to have made it to the next round of the final 26!

The Last Dead End now has the opportunity to be broadcast on the Horror Channel and through other means of distribution. Check out the haunting animatic here!

TEL AVIV began as a concept driven “six short songs about spring”. In 2011, inspired by the fresh buds of Spring and challenged by the micro-blogging model of Twitter, Shane Beales set about writing and recording in his home studio in Hackney. The challenge was to condense a set of songs into a miniature album in much the same way that Twitter users are challenged to limit their messages to 140 characters. The six songs of TEL AVIV clock in at just 15 minutes and tell a heartfelt season based narrative of journeying from disappointment to hope.

Released digitally on iTunes and Shane’s own website in October 2011, TEL AVIV earned critical acclaim, with The Guardian praising its “yearning, electro-flecked and melodic songsmithery”. BBC6Music also featured music from the album praising its concept as well as its brevity.

Initially set to be released online as individual episodes over a six week period, Ross and Shane began shooting in September 2012. The shoot expanded to include a variety of locations including Epping Forest, Cheddar Gorge, Cornwall and Tortworth lake, Gloucestershire. As it progressed capturing footage became more and more ambitious, featuring woodland, mountaintop, boat, beach, underwater scenes and a (slightly dangerous) raging fire!

In the end, the shooting spread out over 3 months and early edits soon showed that something much more substantial than the original 6 webisodes idea was emerging. What started out as an exercise in miniature has grown into a vibrant and ambitious 20 minute short-film about journeying out of the ordinary and into the unexpected.
